The United States has been the world's dominant military power for over 70 years. We spend more on our military than the next 10 countries combined. We have over 800 military bases in over 150 countries. And we have been at war in one form or another for almost our entire history.

This level of militarism is a serious threat to our democracy and our world. It drains our resources, undermines our civil liberties, and makes us less safe.

One man who has been fighting against American militarism for decades is Daniel Ellsberg. Ellsberg is a former military analyst who worked on the Pentagon Papers, a top-secret study of the Vietnam War. In 1971, Ellsberg leaked the Pentagon Papers to The New York Times, revealing the lies and deceptions that had led the United States into a disastrous war.

Ellsberg's act of whistleblowing was a courageous act of conscience. It helped to turn the tide of public opinion against the Vietnam War and contributed to the eventual withdrawal of US troops.

Since then, Ellsberg has continued to speak out against American militarism. He has written books, given speeches, and testified before Congress. He has been arrested and jailed for his activism. But he has never given up his fight for peace.

Ellsberg's story is an inspiration to us all. It shows us that one person can make a difference. It shows us that we can stand up to power and demand change.

We need more people like Daniel Ellsberg. We need people who are willing to speak out against injustice, even when it is unpopular. We need people who are willing to fight for peace, even when it is difficult.

The rise of American militarism is a serious threat to our democracy and our world. But we can stop it. We can demand a more peaceful future. We can build a world where war is no longer an option.

How You Can Help

There are many things you can do to help stop the rise of American militarism. Here are a few ideas:
