Alexander Hamilton was born on January 11, 1757, in Charlestown, Nevis, in the British West Indies. His father, James Hamilton, was a Scottish merchant, and his mother, Rachel Fawcett Lavien, was a French Huguenot. Hamilton's parents were not married, and his father abandoned the family when Hamilton was a young child. Hamilton was raised by his mother and her family.

Hamilton had a difficult childhood. His mother died when he was 11 years old, and he was orphaned. He was taken in by his uncle, Peter Lytton, who sent him to school in New York City. Hamilton excelled in school, and he quickly developed a reputation for his intelligence and ambition.

Hamilton was a brilliant military strategist, and he played a key role in the American Revolution. He served as an aide-de-camp to George Washington, and he commanded the first battalion of the Continental Army.

After the war, Hamilton was appointed the first Secretary of the Treasury. He was responsible for creating the nation's financial system, and he is considered one of the greatest Secretaries of the Treasury in American history.

Hamilton's Death

Hamilton was killed in a duel with Aaron Burr on July 11, 1804. The duel was the result of a long-standing political rivalry between the two men.

Hamilton's death was a tragic loss for the nation. He was a brilliant statesman, and he had much more to give. But his legacy lives on, and he is considered one of the most important figures in American history.
